The Melodics

OK I know we said this was a blog for 'unknowns', but we just couldn't resist including this annoyingly clever group, The Melodics although with only four officially released songs under their belt, they could still be classed as unknowns needing the butterfly effect to work its charm.

You have to love a band that includes an accordion!

They are playing at the Melt bar on 11 November at 8pm. Scout and I are going why not join us?

The Commons

Well we are up and running, we visited our first band last night at the wonderful The Commons.  Myself and my intrepid Scout headed downstairs to be delighted by the sounds of the Downtown Organ Trio.  Three highly accomplished young musicians putting beautiful sounds into the night air.  Their youthful faces seem hardly capable of such sophisticated and accomplished playing. They are currently all students at the Conservatorium of Music and play in numerous other bands around Sydney. Catch them every Thursday night at this venue, in Burton Street, Darlinghurst.

The Commons is a fabulous place, real food upstairs in the restaurant and courtyard and downstairs a cosy, intimate bar ideal for live music, sadly we missed last orders for food and enviously watched the band woof down their risotto, next time we will go early and enjoy the grub too.  A word of warning the drinks list is a tad on the expensive side, but fabulous.

The Butterfly Effect

Welcome to the Butterfly Club a private invitation only club dedicated to giving young and new musicians a helping hand through patronage and exposure.  We currently hold two private functions a year which are an opportunity to showcase new work and eventually revisit some old favourites.  Our first event is coming up on 6th November, more information to follow.

We are a positive discrimination group. We are not critics or from the music industry. We know what we like and we support it accordingly.  Please feel free to browse our blogs and support the musicians mentioned.
